WALKING THE TALK

While we know we have a long way to go, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council is moving toward holding sustainable events.  Here are some of the features we have to offer:

space holder

A Sustainable Destination: Barcelona will soon become the first city to receive the BIOSPHERE certification as a sustainable destination.

Sustainable Accommodations: For those of you staying at the ME Hotel, the ME has also been certified with a BIOSPHERE certification.

Sustainable Transportation: The venues and the accommodations are walking distance from each other; we have provided public transportation to the events; and below you will find the most sustainable ways to travel from the airport to your hotel.

Greening the meeting: We aim to reduce the use of paper and encourage you to do the same.  All materials will be delivered via the GSTC website and via USB sticks at the event, no paper printouts! Our catering is being provided by a local company who sources their materials locally.

If you have specific questions please email GSTCmember@unfoundation.org.

    WEATHER
Barcelona is lovely this time of year! You can expect sun, low precipitation and temperatures around 78 degrees F (25 C) during the day and 63 degrees F (17 C) during the evenings.

    TRANSPORTATION
The GSTC has taken many steps to ensure our Annual Meeting is as sustainable as possible. In this spirit we ask that you consider using Barcelona’s excellent public transportation system during your stay. Below we’ve provided information on each of the main systems and specific directions to each of our partner hotels. Taking public transportation is also much less expensive than taxis (~$80 roundtrip vs. $20).

    BARCELONA AEROBUS:

    Barcelona Aerobus

The least expensive way to reach the center of Barcelona from the airport is via the Aerobus. Tickets for the Aerobus can be purchased on the bus for 5.30 Euros. When leaving baggage claim, follow the signs for taxis and cross the roadway to reach the Aerobus. They are light blue and have Aerobus on the side of the bus.

    BARCELONA METRO

    Barcelona Metro

We recommend you purchase a T10 metro ticket. The ticket is good for 10 trips on most Barcelona public transportation (except the Aerobus). The T10 tickets saves you money. You also save time by not having to purchase an individual ticket each time your ride the metro.  Barcelona Metro Map PDF

For iPhone Users – there is great Barcelona Metro App.

For more information about the Barcelona Metro system click here.

    BARCELONA TRAM

    Barcelona Tram

    Tram Ticket Validation Machine

The tram can take you between your hotel and the meetings. If you purchase the T10 metro ticket you can use this on the tram. If not, you’ll need to purchase a single ticket from the machine at the tram stop. When you get on the tram be sure to validate either your T10 or single ticket in the validating machine (see picture). Barcelona Tram Map.
